County Supports MayView Health Clinic, Preserving Affordable Health Care in the North County

SAN JOSE – The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors last week voted unanimously to provide emergency stabilization funding for MayView Community Health Center, preserving accessible and affordable healthcare in the North County.

Board President Joe Simitian, who pushed for the funding, called the clinic, “essential to the County and North County residents in particular.”

“The Fifth Supervisorial District (which includes cities in the North County and West Valley), is the only district without a County health clinic,” said Simitian. “That means that we rely on a network of community health clinics and non-profits to provide these essential services.”

The $375,000 in County funding will be used to hire one full-time Physician and one half-time nurse practitioner, allowing MayView to keep all of its current clinics open and serving patients full time. MayView had been forced to operate its Sunnyvale clinic at half time for the last several months.

MayView is a Community Health Care Center that provides healthcare to low income families and individuals throughout northern Santa Clara County, with clinics in Mountain View, Palo Alto, and Sunnyvale.

This emergency funding builds upon earlier efforts by Simitian to increase access to health care services in the North County, including:

• Offering care at the Ravenswood Clinic in East Palo Alto for County patients
• Adding specialty services at a new Planned Parenthood ClinicIncreasing urgent care hours at the County’s Sunnyvale Clinic
• Helping to establish Downtown Streets Team/Peninsula Healthcare Connection as a Federally Qualified Health Center
• Integrating behavioral and primary care services at MayView
