New County Health Specialty Clinic and Pharmacy Open in Mountain View

NEW COUNTY HEALTH SPECIALTY CLINIC AND PHARMACY OPEN IN MOUNTAIN VIEW

North Santa Clara County's First Multi Specialty Clinic & Retail Pharmacy Opening Press Conference

SAN JOSE – Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian, joined by Planned Parenthood Mar Monte CEO Stacy Cross and Santa Clara Valley Medical Center Hospitals and Clinics’ (SCVMC) CEO Paul Lorenz, today announced the opening of SCVMC’s’ newest specialty care clinic and pharmacy at 2500 California Street in Mountain View. The clinic and pharmacy are located in the Planned Parenthood building and complement the primary care services currently being offered in the area by local nonprofit partners.

“This is a win-win for the community,” said Simitian. “It allows Planned Parenthood and the County to do even more for the patients we both serve in the North County. This is health care where people need it, in the community, close to home and work. Yet another reminder we can do so much more when we partner with others.”

Planned Parenthood will continue to provide primary health care and reproductive health services, while the County will provide complementary services that might otherwise not be readily available.

The County’s new Multi-Specialty Clinic has two exam rooms which will initially be used for cardiology services and eventually for pulmonary and endocrinology services as well. For someone diagnosed with a condition requiring the services of one of these medical practices, having a specialist available closer to home, and in a familiar environment, makes it easier get needed care.

The retail pharmacy will provide a face-to-face presence for any resident looking to fill a prescription. In addition to filling prescriptions, pharmacists will be available to consult with customers and provide information about their medications.

“Planned Parenthood Mar Monte is excited the County is bringing new specialty services and a pharmacy to Mountain View,” said Stacy Cross, CEO of Planned Parenthood Mar Monte. “These enhanced services will be easy for our patients and families to access, enabling us to continue to provide health care to Mountain View and surrounding communities who have relied on our services for more than four decades.”

Planned Parenthood purchased the building four years ago, after the announcement that its lease on the previous San Antonio Road site would not be renewed. The Mountain View clinic is the only Planned Parenthood clinic between Redwood City and San Jose and has provided health care services for the past 20 years.

In February of 2017, when Simitian learned of Planned Parenthood’s San Antonio site lease coming to an end, he urged the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors to form a partnership with Planned Parenthood to study ways to continue health care services for North County patients.

In June of 2019, the Board of Supervisors approved a partnership proposed by Simitian with Planned Parenthood designed to augment health care services in the North County, and improve care coordination for shared patients of Planned Parenthood and the County’s health care system.

“County medical services in the North County has been a long time coming,” said Simitian. “This will be the County’s first specialty care clinic and pharmacy in the North County. We’ll be offering services side by side with a trusted community partner, in an easy to access location. It’s a winner all around.”
